Ministry Isn’t Just for the Pulpit : The Marketplace is Holy Ground Too

Let’s get right to it. The word “ministry” used to scare me. I used to always say I could never be a Pastor’s wife !! Jokes on me now as I’m currently a Pastor……

We often hear the word “ministry” and immediately think of pulpits, church stages, or full-time pastors. Which is definitely what I thought as-well but guess what ? I was so wrong.
But what if I told you your business… your voice… your daily work…
is ministry too?

  • You don’t need a mic to be a messenger.

  • You don’t need a title to carry anointing.

  • You don’t need a church building to be the Church.

The marketplace is one of the most powerful places for ministry today.

Because that’s where the people are ,in boardrooms, coffee shops, Zoom calls, content creation, design studios, sales calls, and behind-the-scenes strategy.

This is where faith walks, not just talks.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
— Colossians 3:23

I’ve had to walk this one out personally.

Some of you may not know this, but I’m also a pastor , I pastor a ministry called The VINE Movement. And for a long time, I felt conflicted. I asked God, How do I function in both? How can I fully honour the pastoral/apostolic call on my life while also showing up boldly in business, branding, community, and strategy?

There were moments I felt like I had to choose.
Like I had to keep the two worlds separate.
Be “ministry me” in one room and “marketplace me” in another.

But God began to show me:

“You’re not called to choose , you’re called to carry both.”

He reminded me that the anointing doesn’t switch off when I step out of the church.
It flows just as strongly in DMs, launches, strategy calls, and consulting sessions as it does on a Sunday.
He showed me that the boardroom and the altar are not enemies , they’re connected.

My Business is Ministry. And Yours Can Be Too.

Over time, clients began to say things like:

“There’s something different about working with you.”
“I felt clarity and peace just being in that session.”
“I can’t explain it, but something shifted.”

That’s when I knew:
Even when I wasn’t overtly preaching Jesus, He was present.
His Spirit was working through me in ways I didn’t always see, but others could feel.

I’ve literally had business consulting calls where have ended up turning to prophetic encounters and tears !!

Practical Ways to Minister in the Marketplace:

1. Pray before you post, pitch, or plan.
Invite the Holy Spirit into the process , not just the results.

2. Serve with both excellence and empathy.
Your work ethic is ministry. Your compassion is too.

3. Discern when to speak and when to simply shine.
Sometimes God will give you words, other times He’ll just use your presence.

4. Be generous with encouragement and truth.
That one message or insight could be the lifeline someone didn’t know they needed.

5. Stop separating the sacred from the strategic.
You’re not just a business owner who believes in God.
You’re a Kingdom carrier called to shift atmospheres through what you build.

Builder’s Prompt:

Where in your business can you begin showing up as a minister, not just a manager? Write it down. Pray into it. Then take one small action to walk it out this week.
