Panelist at TATA for Black History Month

I had the privilege of being invited to serve as a panellist at Tata Consultancy Services for a dynamic and thought-provoking event focused on diversity and inclusion in the tech industry, held in celebration of Black History Month. It was an honour to be part of a conversation that not only highlighted the progress being made, but also the significant work that still lies ahead.

During the session, I had the opportunity to share my personal experiences navigating the tech space as a Black woman, and to speak about the ongoing mission of Black Girls in Tech — an organisation dedicated to increasing the representation of Black women in technology through community, education, and career support. Our work is rooted in the belief that real change happens when access and opportunity meet intentional action.

The panel covered several critical themes that continue to shape the diversity and inclusion landscape, including:

  1. The Need for Diversity in the Workplace
We explored how diverse teams are not only more innovative, but also better equipped to understand and serve a wide range of customers. Representation at all levels of an organisation leads to better decision-making, improved performance, and stronger employee engagement.

  2. The Importance of Allies and Amplifying Voices
Real inclusion involves more than just representation — it requires active allyship. We discussed the power of amplifying underrepresented voices and how allies can use their platforms and privilege to create space, drive visibility, and challenge bias in meaningful ways.

  3. The Impact of Building Inclusive Cultures
Diversity without inclusion risks being performative. We talked about how cultivating an inclusive workplace culture — one where individuals feel safe, valued, and heard — leads to increased retention, a sense of belonging, and ultimately, a stronger organisational culture.

It was truly a powerful discussion, and I left feeling both inspired and motivated to continue advocating for greater equity within tech and beyond. I’m grateful to TCS for creating a platform for these important conversations and for their commitment to driving change.
